Independence Day
On this day 249 years ago marked the day that the 13 American colonies came together as one. The Revolutionary War was happening during this time. Plenty was at stake. Wanting their independence from Great Britain, our “forefathers” signed the Declaration of Independence. The Continental Congress had to approve of the document. Then the birth of The United States happened on July 4, 1776 when which allowed them to become one sovereign nation and no longer under rule of King George III.
What if we lost the war? What if no one said, “Enough is enough!” Where would we be as a nation? We would lack many individual liberties and freedoms that we take for granted. Our Constitution would not be written. We would not have the right to vote for our leaders. A government chosen, by the people and for the people, would not exist.
Let us not forget to tell the younger generation which makes our country so great and unique amongst other countries. Individuals have convinced these kids how terrible America is… May we not be ashamed to speak the truth of America’s history and respect those that are willing to protect our freedoms and liberties. “Lest we forget.”
